Diagnostic Testing

Accurate imaging is the foundation of every retinal treatment plan. Every one of our locations has on-site diagnostic testing, including Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), wide-angle fundus photography and autofluorescence, fluorescein angiography, and B-scan ultrasonography, so your evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment can all happen in a single visit.

Why Testing Is Needed

Many retinal diseases cause changes that cannot be seen during a standard eye exam. Imaging allows your retina specialist to see the microscopic layers of the retina, measure swelling, detect abnormal blood vessels, and track how your condition responds to treatment over time. Repeat imaging at follow-up visits is how we decide when the next injection, laser, or other treatment is needed.

Our Diagnostic Tests

We have a talented team of photographers and the most up-to-date equipment to better assist us in the management of nearly all retinal conditions.

What to Expect at Your Visit

Most retinal exams begin with dilating drops, which take about 20 to 30 minutes to work and leave your vision blurry and light-sensitive for several hours. Plan to have someone drive you home. A typical visit including imaging and evaluation lasts one to two hours. Bring sunglasses, a list of your current medications, and any prior eye records from your referring doctor. Learn more about retinal anatomy and diagnostic testing or review patient information before your appointment.
