The choice of doctors and patients - Since 1983

Welcome to Retina & Vitreous Consultants of Wisconsin

Over 10,000 Reviews Across all Locations

Founded in 1983, Retina and Vitreous Consultants of Wisconsin has grown into Southeastern Wisconsin’s largest and premier retina practice. Because of its track record of providing exceptional retinal care, Retina and Vitreous Consultants of Wisconsin has received over 100,000 new patient referrals from both ophthalmologists and optometrists.

While the specialty of retina has changed over the last 40 years, our commitment to excellent, ethical, and accessible patient care remains steadfast. We continue to provide an extensive breadth of surgical and medical treatment of retina and vitreous diseases while working closely with referring doctors who entrust us with your care.

With diverse training at some of the top retina programs across the country, our board-certified physicians have substantial experience in addressing both common and rare retinal conditions. Remaining up-to-date on recent advancements in the field, our doctors have one singular goal- to help patients maximize their full visual potential.

Retina and Vitreous Consultants of Wisconsin continues to innovate and expand. In 2024 and 2025, new Class A office suites in Greenfield and Waukesha, respectively, opened reflecting our commitment to  unequivocal high end and enhanced patient-centric experiences.

In early 2025, Retina and Vitreous Consultants of Wisconsin formed the Retina Research Center of Wisconsin, the first retina-only research organization in the state of Wisconsin, to allow patients to locally participate in national clinical trials for new treatments of numerous retinal diseases.

Additionally, in 2025, the practice became recognized as one of six national Centers of Excellence for Encelto – a novel surgical treatment for a rare condition called Mac Tel- and performed the first cases ever in the state of Wisconsin. Currently, Retina and Vitreous Consultants is the only group in Wisconsin certified to perform this complex procedure, and receives referrals from other retinal specialists across the country.

Retina and Vitreous Consultants of Wisconsin remains the only private retina practice in Wisconsin that offers pediatric medical and surgical retinal care and with specific pediatric fellowship training while our comprehensive Inherited Retinal Disease clinic offers Wisconsin patients the latest technological advancements with regards to diagnosis, management, surgery and interventional research for rare anddebilitating genetic diseases.

In early 2026, Retina and Vitreous Consultants opened its 6th clinic in New Berlin to better serve our Southwestern corridor patients in another class A space. In August 2026, Dr. Kevin Elwood will join our team after completing his retina fellowship at Rush University/Illinois Retina Associates and ophthalmology residency at University of Wisconsin. We will also soon be opening our 7th location.

We earn our reputation through hard work and proven results, and it is not a coincidence that Retina and Vitreous Consultants of Wisconsin remains the busiest retina practice in Southeast Wisconsin and beyond with many patients traveling hundreds of miles across the state and throughout the United States to see us.

Patient Education

Vitreo-retinal surgery

We perform all of our surgery at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center, the largest hospital in Wisconsin. We regularly perform microincisional vitrectomy which is the platform on which nearly all retinal conditions are addressed surgically; the more common indications include retinal detachment, macular pucker/hole, vitreous hemorrhage, persistent floaters, retained lens after cataract surgery, diabetic retinopathy, infection, and ocular trauma. Depending on context, scleral buckling, cryotherapy, and pneumatic retinopexy are also occasionally employed in the management of retinal detachments and retinal tears.

Laser

Laser retinopexy is the bedrock of retinal tear management, while laser panretinal photocoagulation, grid of focal laser, micropulse laser, and photodynamic therapy with Visudyne are utilized most often for diabetic retinopathy, macular edema and central serous retinopathy.

Intravitreal injections

Intravitreal injections are the mainstay of treatment for wet age related macular degeneration, macular edema from a variety of causes, and several other conditions. We have access to all types of injections including Avastin, Eylea and Eylea HD, Vabysmo, Lucentis, Beovu, Ozurdex, Kenalog/Triesence, Yutiq, Syfovre, and Izervay.

Diagnostic Testing

All of our locations have on-site imaging capability including Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), wide angle fundus photography and Autofluorescence (FP/AF) and Fluorescein Angiography (FA), and B-scan ultrasonography
